Honour Killing.....its prevalence in Society!!!
Most of you people would not be aware of the particular term honour killing. People in liberalized society or western countries have been used to dating, love marriage, sex etc. much more than conservative countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. The killing or murder of an individual is itself an act so brutal and uncivilized that we look upon at the accused with contempt of the highest order. An act of killing a loved one in rage or deceit might be known to most of the world. But killing a loved one for marrying someone or somebody they loved, or doing something which would be considered inappropriate by a fraction of the society or the family is something unknown to most of many.
I read in a newspaper today that a girl was killed by her own mother and father, the police suspected 'honor killing' and arrested the mother and father. Rightly so, the term is not as harmless as it sounds. This concept has grown from earlier ages, decades ago when the prevalence of caste-ism and communal-ism was rampant among cultures. It was considered a crime to be killed for (as you would make out), whenever there would be a marriage between two different religions or castes, or when there would be any act considered as immoral or degrading the reputation of the family it would call for consequences. It did not only stop there it seems, it has come to and remained prevalent in today's world as well. Whenever there is a marriage against caste or religion, meaning a boy marrying a girl of a different caste or marrying a girl of the same 'gotra'(as they refer to their own family of ascendants) or vice versa, in conservative countries (like mine) it may either be met with very little criticism (some of the family may not attend the wedding) but it can be seen to start family feuds of the highest and the most terrible degrees. If in some cases when the couple or the accused manage to elope to an unknown and undisclosed location, they should for their better forget to see or hear from their family members ever again. So people the concept of honor killing is not new, but very old and if you are unaware of this strange thing it is better for you and your society.
So as I said the girl was murdered, strangulated asphyxiation was the cause of her death, when she was with her mother the house. It's strange the concept, honor being more important than loving your own sons and daughters. But so seems to be the way the society is in some parts of the world and this could take a few more decades to change.
It seems horrifying to picture a mother killing her own adult daughter but so is true, or highly likely if not true, considering the circumstances of death (she hasn't been found guilty yet).Either way we must accept. As, we know the world has evolved and must grow, from this too. How long or what length will it evolve to is yet to be unearthed?
It is us who shape and mould the future so we can try that we mould it in a civilized and humane (ironical even animals don't do such acts) way.
