Wearing and Looking After your Rubber Clothing
1. Lubrication
In order to get into rubber, you'll need to lubricate it in some way. You have to do this because the natural state of rubber is quite sticky, and will stick to your skin. You can lubricate it in a variety of ways including:
* Talc
This is by far the most common way of getting into rubber. It's dry, and stops the surface getting sticky and makes it a lot easier to slide into that catsuit or whatever it is you're trying to get into, however, it does have its drawbacks; it can irritate your lungs if you inhale it; steer clear of perfumed talc as it may damage the rubber; when worn for a while sweat mixes with the talc and causes 'the dreaded white stuff' a mix of sweat and talc not unlike mixing flour and water!
* Water Based Lube
This is a fairly expensive option, but this does make it very very slippery, excellent for getting your rubber on but you'll use up a lot of it on anything large such as a catsuit, this does have some drawbacks; it's very slippery and if you get it into the feet of a catsuit or leggings, it can make walking about more like ice-skating; it does dry, and may cause the garment to chafe.
* Silicone based lube
This is also a fairly expensive option, and is usually the one that rubber fetish picture sites opt for with their models as it also makes the rubber very shiny, and is very slippy, it stays slippery for a long time too, which can make it quite dangerous if it gets into the feet of a garment or worse if it gets into a wooden floor!
Overall I'd recommend the use of talc to get into your rubber garments
2. Shining
In order to make your rubber look really good you might want to shine it up, there's a few options when it comes to shine:
* Water based lotion
This is fairly hard to come by, but is probably the best compromise as it produces a very silky surface, but not as shiny as others. Look for a rubber shine specific water based lotion. Cocoon markets a very good version. It's applied to the garment with a cloth and gives a very friction free and fairly dry feel.
* Silicone based spray
We do not recommend the use of silicone spray on rubber, it causes the surface to become sticky and can be quite dangerous if it gets onto any hard surfaces around. This is used a lot by photographers of rubber though as it makes the best shine.
* Silicone based lube
This is basicly the same as the way to get into it, but you apply it to the outside of the garment using a sponge or cloth, it gives a very shiny surface, and a lot of photographers use this method too.
3. Wearing it
First rule of wearing rubber is to enjoy it! It's a very sensual feeling, and can be very erotic. You do have to watch out for a couple of things though:
* Watch out for sharp objects!
You dont want to catch your rubber on anything sharp and get a blowout!
* Mind out of anything a bit hot!
Particularly cigarettes and open flames, rubber is very flammable, so be very careful
* Copper
Copper can discolour light coloured rubber, in particular copper coins can mark a garment very quickly if they come into contact with it. It wont harm the rubber, but it'll discolour it.
* Oils
Mineral, Animal and Vegetable oils can degrade rubber very quickly causing it to fail and turn into a black oily goo, not good if you want to wear anything again, so keep your rubber away from oils! (Silicone oil should be ok, but in particular keep it away from petroleum based oils.
4. Getting out of it again
The easiest way to get out of a garment is usually under a shower, not only will the water lubricate the rubber a bit, it'll help clean any oils off it. If your rubber needs a good clean use any good detergent as long as it hasn't got any harmful oils in it, and stay away from soap.
5. Storing rubber garments
Ideally you should clean and talc your garments before storage. You should store your rubber away from sunlight (it degrades rubber) and if you decide to hang it up, use a wooden hanger. If you want to pack your rubber away for a while, get hold of some zip lock bags, place your rubber inside (one per bag), add some talc, and give it a shake, it'll powder the whole garment pretty quickly, and make sure it doesn't stick when you get it out!
